The Joint Senegalo-Gambian Boundary Commission on August 5, 2025, embarked on a crucial sensitization mission to the border villages of Njau (The Gambia) – Daaru Madi Diallo (Senegal) and Jartali (The Gambia) – Kanouma (Senegal) in the Central River Region.
This joint mission follows reports of land disputes and rising tensions between these communities. It aims to foster peaceful coexistence through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The Commission directly engaged with the affected populations, assessed the realities on the ground, and mapped out ways towards a sustainable and amicable resolution.
Representing The Gambia, the mission was led by Ndey Marie Njie, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs and Chair of the National Boundary Management Commission joined by senior officials from the Office of the President, Ministry of Defence, Department of Lands and Survey, Department of Physical Planning and Housing, Gambia Police Force, SIS, GID and the Ministry of Public Service. The Senegalese team was led by Col. Amadou n Ndir and joined by other top government officials.
This engagement underscores the strong cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal in safeguarding peaceful cross-border relations and addressing emerging issues through dialogue and mutual respect.
